Chatables Privacy Policy
Chatables LLC. (“Chatables”, or “we” or “us”) owns and operates third-party voice interactive applications (“apps”) that run on platforms provided by technology platform owners (“Platform Owners”). Examples of Platform Owners providing voice-responsive smart assistants include, but may not be limited to, Amazon, Google, and Samsung. Chatables also operates the website Chatables.com. We recognize that you may be concerned about our treatment of the information (“Information”) that we collect when you interact with our apps or website. Accordingly, this privacy policy (this “Policy”) addresses those concerns and both describes the Information that we may collect and explains how we use this Information.
You should note that when you interact directly with a Platform Owner’s device or with any third-party apps that are not operated by Chatables, your data may be collected by platforms or apps that are owned and controlled by a third party (“Third Party”). This Policy does not apply to any Information that you share with Third Party apps or platforms. Before disclosing Information, you should verify that you know the identity of the party to whom you are making a disclosure and the privacy policy that applies to the treatment of your Information.
Information We Collect and How We Use That Information
Your Unique Device or User ID
Platform Owners provide us with anonymous unique identifiers, such as device or user ID. Since these identifiers are anonymous, we are not able to ascertain your identity based on this information. For some of our voice apps, we store this ID in our secure database so that we know where you are within a story or withing the overall voice app experience.
We use the unique identifier provided to us by the Platform Owners to determine whether you have already heard a story or a specific episode. By using this identifier, we are able to ensure that we offer you new content you have not heard, or bring you back to the story you started, but have not you finished.
We currently story the device ID for our "Storyteller Cafe" voice app. We currently do not store the device ID for our "Armchair Outings" voice app.
Your First Name (Only if you choose to provide it voluntarily)
During our voice app experiences, a virtual character may ask you to voluntarily share your first name.
If you choose to tell the virtual character your first name, we may store your first name in a database. Having your first name allows our virtual characters to greet your by name when you enter our voice app experience and refer to you by name during certain conversational interactions. We do not currently share your first name with any third parties.
Your Progress Through Our Voice App Experience
Using your anonymous unique identifier, we may maintain a record of your progress inside our voice app experience, such as which stories you have been offered, which ones you've heard all the way through, and which stories you have started by not yet finished. We use the record of your activity to enhance your experience within our voice app in ways that include: making sure we don't offer you a story you have already heard or asked us to skip, remembering to offer you a story you weren't able to finish but asked us to offer you later, and offering you the latest updates from our virtual characters if you haven't hear them yet. We also use your unique identifier to record any in-skill purchases you make to ensure that you get to exchange all the virtual coins you purchase on accessing stories.
We currently story your progress in our "Storyteller Cafe" voice app. We currently do not story your progress in our "Armchair Outings" voice app.
Text or Audio Versions of Your Voice Utterances
At the current time, we do NOT receive or collect either text files of what you say while using our voice apps or audio files that contain recordings of your voice.
Usage Frequency Information
We record data related to when and how often you engage with some of our apps.
We may use this data to determine when to offer you periodic content updates, such as special content that is meant to be offered only once a day. We may also use usage data to better understand how users are engaging with our voice apps so that we can improve the experience.
Your Response to a Specific Yes or No Question in a Story
We have the ability to store whether you responded in the affirmative or negative to certain Yes/No questions asked during a story.
This information is stored in a temporary variable and is used later in the story. Knowing how you responded to a previous Yes/No question gives the virtual character the ability to refer back to that response and tailor the story, or a statement, or a question, based on what you told the virtual character earlier. At the current time we do not use your Yes/No response for any other purposes beyond personalizing your story experience.
Language and Geographic Data
Platform Owners may provide us with information about the region in which you are located when you are using your smart device, as well as what language setting you have selected.
Device Data
Platform Owners may provide us with information about the device you are using to access our apps.
We may use usage data to better understand how often users engage with our apps. This data is anonymous, so we are not able to identify a specific user by name. Platform Owners may use usage data to make payments to us, such as royalty payments based on how often our apps are used.
Other Demographic Information
Platform Owners may from time to time provide us with other anonymous demographic information about you.
We use language, geographic, and other demographic information to find out where our apps are popular and to help us design content that can better serve the widest possible audience.
